This might be my favorite show so far. If you were to look up “empowered patient” in the dictionary, there should be a picture of Kate. Her primary care doctor sent her out the door with very little guidance and little-to-no information. Which, unfortunately, is a very common scenario.
She took matters into her own hands and found as much information as she could. It was very fun to hear that one of the books she found so useful (‘The First Year: Type 2 Diabetes: An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed‘) was written by Gretchen Becker, who I had the pleasure of meeting a couple of years ago, and she is a real gem.
Then we heard Kate talk about her introduction to the Diabetes Online Community (DOC) through a combination of Bob Pedersen, one of my favorite guys around, and Karen Graffeo, one of my favorite gals around . Bob’s blog is ‘T Minus Two‘, and is a treasure chest full of wise introspection and wisdom, and Karen blogs at Bitter-Sweet, also an incredible source of inspiration and hope.
Kate talked about what her visions are for the upcoming year, which includes a lot of local advocacy efforts and making things happen in her corner of the world. I can’t help but to love the energy and drive to make a real difference for someone.
Kate says we all matter, we all count, we’re all worth it, and we all make a difference. I couldn’t agree more.
Thank you Kate!
